California Senate Bill 183 was recently signed in to law.  It requires that Carbon Monoxide detectors be installed in ALL single family homes beginning July 1, 2011. This law was passed because residents in homes without Carbon Monoxide detectors are at risk of serious injury or death.
 

Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, tasteless by-product of incomplete burning of solid gas and liquid fuel.  Carbon Monoxide can be created by gas-powered appliances and fireplaces.  Because humans cannot detect the deadly presence of Carbon Monoxide it is sometimes called ‘the silent killer’.


Carbon Monoxide detectors should be installed in every level of the home including one near each sleeping area.  This is very similar to the required locations for Smoke detectors, which have been required since January 1, 1987.

OUR 5-POINT INSPECTION INCLUDES​

1. SMOKE DETECTORS

 

If Smoke Detectors are present, we check age, location and battery life. If any detector is over 5 years old we highly recommend they be replaced with a combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector. *

3. FURNACE & WATER HEATER EXHAUST FLUE INSPECTION

 

If your Furnace and Water Heater exhaust flue is readily accessible, we check slope, condition and connectivity of exhaust flue.

5. FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSPECTION

 

If present, inspect age, condition location and rating.

2. CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS


If Carbon Monoxide Detectors are present, we check age, location and battery life. If not present, we highly recommend the installation of a combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector. *

4. FURNACE FILTER INSPECTION

 

If your Furnace Filter is readily accessible, we inspect the condition of the filter.
